Victory Music Review
Andy Kuncl's music is energetic and loose, with funky percussive guitar grooves and passionate singing. His lyrics resemble diary excerpts, with the immediacy of thoughts and feelings captured on the fly, but too often making us watch him feel things rather than allowing us to experience the feelings ourselves. In his more poetic images, we glimpse Kuncl's developing artistry, as in the closing lines of 'Too Quickly', about his grandmother's death: 'What I wouldn't give / to wrap my arms around / what should have been'. A charismatic young performer whose talents will continue to blossom in the coming years. (Richard Middleton, Victory Music Review, Tacoma, Washington: November 1998)
